Va. senator stabbed in home; son found dead: Report Police said in a news release Tuesday that Democratic Sen. Creigh Deeds, who unsuccessfully ran for governor four years ago, had suffered serious injuries. A Virginia state senator and former gubernatorial candidate was attacked and seriously wounded at his home early on Tuesday, and local media reported that his son was found dead of a gunshot wound at the home. Creigh Deeds, a 55-year-old Democrat, was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center and being treated for his injuries, Virginia State Police said in a statement. The Richmond Times-Dispatch newspaper said he was in critical condition with stab wounds. Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, who defeated Deeds for the state's top office in 2009, offered his condolences and said the state "unites in prayer" for Deeds' recovery. "The news from this morning is utterly heartbreaking," McDonnell said in a statement. "Creigh Deeds is an exceptional and committed public servant who has always done what he believes is best for Virginia and who gives his all to public service." Authorities responded to Deeds' home in Millboro, Virginia, at 7:25 a.m. local time, and found one person dead and the senator wounded, police said. Police did not identify the dead person, but the Times-Dispatch cited law enforcement officials as identifying that person as Deeds' son. Deeds was the Democratic nominee for state attorney general in 2005 and governor in 2009, but lost both races. He has been a state senator since 2001. news.msn.com/crime-justice/va-senator-in-hospital-after-assault-police?ocid=ansnews11
